Apprenticeship – Health Coaching Professional
Apprenticeships are an avenue for employees to undertake formal training to enhance their knowledge, skills and behaviours while being employed in a relevant job. Employees are provided with an opportunity to attain formal qualifications by combining theoretical learning with on the job development. Apprenticeships range in length and level; this particular health coaching professional is level 5 and will typically be 14 months in duration. The delivery of the learning will be a mix of on the job development, classroom based learning, and online sessions.
The aim of the health coaching professional programme is to produce graduates who are competent to practice in a way that empowers people to change their behaviour. The focus is on one to one relationships with people and spans leadership and management, health, mediation, and other customer facing professions. Although the central element of the apprenticeship is understanding and developing coaching skills to enhance rapport development and behaviour change, this APEC model will focus on these skills within a health context. Therefore any employees who work in health services, social care, fitness and leisure, lifestyle management, occupational health, and education could harness this programme to advance their practice.
The majority of learning will take place during the day to day work of the apprentice. APEC will provide guidance and structure to shape learning, reflection, and development through the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to graduate. APEC will provide the external training across coaching, person centred practice and activation, and lifestyle management. While undertaking the apprenticeship additional health competencies and qualifications will be woven into the learning. Learners will also receive professional qualifications in first aid, nutrition, personal training, mindfulness and behaviour change to enhance their applied skills.
