COMMUNITY SPORT & HEALTH OFFICER
Apprenticeships are an avenue for employees to undertake formal training to enhance their knowledge, skills and behaviours while being employed in a relevant job. Employees are provided with an opportunity to attain formal qualifications by combining theoretical learning with on the job development. Apprenticeships range in length and level; this particular community sport and health officer is level 3 and will typically be 18 months in duration. The delivery of the learning will be a mix of on the job development, classroom based learning, and online sessions.
The aim of the community sport and health officer programme is to produce graduates who are competent to needs assess communities, plan, coordinate, deliver and evaluate physical activity and sport programmes that initiate behaviour change in individuals. Learners will be embedded in, and across, local and national organisations who all share an agenda to change the behaviours of often underrepresented, hard to reach, and resistant groups.
Employers are likely to come from the private, public, and third sector organisations across leisure, sport, youth work, outdoor education, social care and public health. The majority of learning will take place during the day to day work of the apprentice. APEC will provide guidance and structure to shape learning, reflection, and development through the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to graduate. APEC will provide the external training in order to underpin learning with the theory of practice across community development, behaviour change, health promotion, and monitoring and evaluation. Learners will also receive professional qualifications in health promotion, project management, first aid and behaviour change to enhance their applied skills.
